This training explores practical, trauma-informed approaches for engaging individuals and communities who may be experiencing substance use concerns, mental health challenges, homelessness, sexual violence, and other overlapping stressors. Participants will review how trauma, substance use, mental health concerns, and unstable living conditions can affect the brain, behavior, self-regulation, help-seeking, and recovery. The course also examines the difference between behaviors and trauma reactions, introduces core helping strategies, and highlights harm reduction principles as part of effective recovery support. Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of how to provide respectful, responsive, and sustainable support while also recognizing the impact of helping work on helpers.
